Rich people paying bribes to get their kids into big name universities. Big scandal nationwide. News articles about how for every unqualified child who gets in because of a bribe, a qualified student is denied admission.

Absolutely true, no doubt about it.

Why only go half-way though.

What about the thousands of unqualified athletes that get free rides at universities, some of them pubic supported, because they can run fast, shoot a basketball, knock people down, etc.? They also take up a space that could and should go to a qualified applicant who is left out in the cold.

At least those who were admitted because of bribes PAID ADMISSION FEES.

Exactly my point. Men donít HAVE to open the door for women anymore, yet men with manners still do it. Today chivalry is still alive, sans rule or code.

When equality arrived for women chivalry left. They can't have it both ways. I'm sure NOW members would agree.

Ignore that knucklehead Lollie. Heís not too bright and is without congeniality or chivalry. I think in early childhood he fell off the toilet stool and landed on his head.

And I'm not here for the express purpose of engaging you. All any of us do is post our opinions and naturally we don't always agree.
The problem is some people just cannot handle being disagreed with or challenged. If you disagree with them you are a hateful person who is picking on them.

I can't find the article...it was an AP article out of Chicago from either yesterday or Thursday. I'm not here to duke it out with you. Just expressing my opinions based on an article I read - actually two articles. But again, I went back looking for them but can't find them. Enough said for now. I've learned my lesson not to engage.

I'm wondering what your source of information was that caused you to "come to these conclusions" in the Smollett fiasco?
You said that a class 4 felony "never" results in jail time. Where did you find that? In Illinois a class 4 felony is any felony that can be punished by at LEAST one year in state prison.
I agree with you, the prosecution is not saying that he is innocent, they are saying that he is guilty. It is Smollett and his attorney that are still saying that he is innocent. They deny that any agreement was made. How stupid do they believe people are? If he is innocent why did hw forfeit his $10,000 bond? Innocent people do not surrender their bond.
You say he didn't "surrender the money." Yes he did. To surrender is to give up and he certainly gave up the money. Did you have a point here?
You say that Smollett may be in trouble with the feds if it can be proven that the letter he sent is fake." That's not true. There is nothing illegal about a fake letter. They must prove that Smollett SENT the letter.

I'm sorry but I fail to comprehend what you are trying to tell us. What is your point, what is the reason for your post?

I agree with Mayor Emmanuel, an Obama democrat, when he says the thing is a "whitewash of justice."

I went looking for answers to this too and after doing some reading, I came to these conclusions...they're not saying he is innocent...in fact, he didn't "surrender" the money...it was accepted as payment for his fine and he also served 16-hours of community service. The judicial system felt that too much money and time were being spent on a 4-class felony which never requires any jail time. They're not saying he's innocent...they're saying "time served." Big difference. But he may still be in trouble with the Federal government for sending himself the fake letter, if it can be proven to be fake. To mess with the postal service is a federal offense.

When I wrote that last post the bail had been announced at 100K. It's actually 10K but again, if he was innocent why did he forfeit it?

If Smollette is not guilty, as his attorney says, why has he surrendered his $100,000 bail? What a travesty. But then, it is Chicago.

Blizzarding. We're all tucked safely at home. It's been several years since we've had a full-blown blizzard. They're scary and powerful but beautiful in a weird sort of way. The energy from the wind is amazing.

Be thankful you're out of Iowa. They've already had at least two or three blizzards. Lots and lots of snow piling up all over the state. Omaha has had their fair share of snow this year but nothing like Iowa.

I'm sorry to see that Russ Huck has died. I remember when he was the top officer in Mrs. Munzinger's paramilitary Patrol Boys at IB Elementary. A VERY nice guy.
