The South Bay Union elementary school district runs a program called VIP (very important people). It is 3 and 4 year olds. Would blow your mind what the kids have at their disposal for learning. 24 modular classrooms. If ya ever get back this way it is a must visit and am sure you would be blown away.

I agree, they're pretty smart but let's say you were taking a poll and asked them what party Trump belonged to. Maybe one in 10 would know. How accurate would poll results of "only 10% of Americans know Trump is a republican" be?
That's my point: where did the poll results come from?

My grandson just finished kindergarten and My wife and I are very impressed. Amazing how much he learned. They actually teach in kindergarten. He even had homework. I remember kindergarten as nothing but playtime.

I put very little stock in any survey unless I know who was being asked the question.
Let's say it's a question about politics. You'll get one result in a low income, government subsidized apartment complex and another in an upscale shopping mall. One result in downtown NY city and another in a mid-sized Midwestern city.
As far as the question about chocolate milk goes, maybe the question was put to a kindergarten class.

A recent survey of 1,000 people asked the question "Where does chocolate milk come from?"

48% said they didn't know.

7% said it came from brown cows.

Amen to that.
I finally couldn't take just keeping my mom like that.
I finally brought her home and hospice stepped in. A glorious day all our friends came to visit and she went into a coma that nite and passed in 5 days.
That's how I want to go....No hospitals keeping you alive and in pain. Oh yeah and the $$$$$

If Tom arrives there I won't blame him for cashing it in.

Gosh, Old age and diseases seem to harvest my body. I still train some folks with my boxing lessons but 20 plus years of chemo and other poisons have taken their toll. I have had to cut my training sessions to four days a week. Even then, Parkinson's Disease and Osteo/Arthritis plus other malady's have made old age quite unhappy at times. The heart isn't too well either. On the GOOD side. I am dancing the weekends away. Hee Haw, I still have a few HAPPY'S left in my old bones and skinny frame. So, I will have a Happy tomorrow for sure and The Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

First REAL snowstorm of the season. The other two or three were whimpy with maybe 2-3 inches at the most. We have a few more hours to go and we probably already have 3-4 inches here at the house. It's a welcome relief for the farmer for sure.

I had no first hand knowledge about racism growing up as I did in Chula and I.B.. I graduated in '62 and we didn't have any blacks at MVHS. I don't believe I played against any in football or basketball. I remember a few at track meets that had multiple schools competing. But didn't have any personal contact. I was a na´ve kid from Socal, and the only racism I saw was on TV newscasts reporting from the south. But it didn't really touch me until much later, and then I didn't understand what it was all about. I don't know what to make of current times with what's going on in the inner cities. Leaders like MLK put their lives on the line to make things better, but the young blacks of today don't seem to respect the sacrifices that were made. Are things better now? In some ways they are, but in regards to all the violence..., I think it's worse. There's many reasons for it, and I'm not one to presume I'm smart enough to have the solution. Maybe it should start with respect for one another, and a real open dialogue, not one where everyone is walking on egg shells afraid of offending the other. Oh hell, it won't be solved in my lifetime, we can only hope it will eventually get resolved. It has to, the alternative isn't something I would wish for the U.S..

I went into the Army out of high school.
I went to BT in Alabama. I had no clue of racism until we had to go buy our list of special under wares and shoes. OMG...we had to go to separate stores that was on a list. Then my roommate and I went to a train station on leave at Christmas. We had to sit in separate sides of the station. I never went off base after that. It angered me to be separated from my only friends and roommates.

Yeah, I figured some would immediately go to the racist label. But those who would do that, probably have NEVER had a real conversation in regards to race. I remember the first time I found out about the huge disparity between black & white schools. It blew me away that the black schools didn't have enough books. This was many, many years ago. Also, when I first went into the USAF in 1962, it was supposed to be integrated, but it wasn't. Blacks were always housed separate from the whites. I had a sort of mentor who taught me how to shoot pool, and more or less gave it to me straight. I was a na´ve kid from Imperial Beach, he was a black Sgt. from Alabama. He taught me about subtle racism, and of course the outrageous kind. He predicted back then, that things would eventually reach a boiling point, because there really isn't any truly open dialogue between the races. How right he was. We stayed in touch through the years, and he died about 10yrs. ago. I went to his funeral, and was surprised how many people were there. He touched a lot of lives besides mine. There should be more like him, but people like him are VERY rare.

I agree. My point was, that the envelope is being pushed everyday. Something you also see now that would NEVER have been shown in commercials when we were growing up, is all the mixed race couples being shown. Or commercials showing blacks & whites hanging out together laughing and partying. It fits a political narrative, but it's certainly not fact. I had a pretty racially diverse bunch of friends in my working days, and had some pretty intense conversations during long flights. What I came away with was how different races see things. It would be great if more people would sit down and talk honestly, without worrying about PC. But that's in a fantasy world, NOT the real world. Not a racial comment, just fact. Like the old ad slogan said, "We've come a long way baby."
