Just like when the Clippers left San Diego, love turned to hate and no part of me wishes the Los Angeles Chargers well. Unless hoping Philip Rivers throws for 5,000 yards every season and ends up in the Hall of Fame counts.

The Seahawks have quite the following in Seattle. The fans there would probably burn down the town if they moved. My son lives in that area and always took flak for being a Charger fan. Now he doesn't have to take anymore flak. For that matter, neither do I.

Now you're free to be a Seahawks fan! I'm now a big Cowboys fan, myself.

If someone would have told me in the 60's that the San Diego Chargers would never win a Superbowl, I would have cried. EVERY damn season either ended in no play-offs, a heart breaking defeat, or both. The abusive relationship is over. How 'bout them Cowboys!

Don't come by often, but "Los Angeles Chargers" does not compute. As has been said; they are at the bottom of the heap not just as a football team, but the name?--ugh. Any name that has the words Los Angeles as part of that name? Hater I am.

I agree Nope. Not to mention that relocating to a new stadium in LA adds hundreds of millions to the value of the team.

The Chargers won't likely return to SD. They won't care about being second fiddle if being in a top 5 media market increases revenue. The biggest feature in these new stadiums are the luxury suites. Los Angeles is closer to entertainers and big businesses that make use of them.

The Q lacked for those, and we relied on fans of other teams to fill the stadium. Home games were more like away games as far as fan noise went.

The bottom of the heap. That's just about where they are alright. A very poor team playing second fiddle in LA in a 30K soccer stadium.
Now if we can just get Qualcomm razed before they decide to come back.

I was trying to demonstrate that coaching hires and fires are like musical chairs in the NFL. Coaches are almost always fired as scapegoats to show the fans that management is doing SOMETHING to improve the team.
Good coach or bad coach (I'm not judging) Mc Coy was immediately hired by Denver. Ever notice that Norv Turner has always had a job and is still referred to as an offensive genius?
Same thing happens in baseball, maybe even worse.

The Chargers have another bad year so Spanos fires McCoy. There has to be a scapegoat. Somebody must be blamed. McCoy is hired as Denver's offensive coordinator a week later. It happens every year in the NFL.

What's with Phillip Rivers? No matter if he throws a TD pass or an interception he ALWAYS takes his helmet off when walking off the field. Is there any other quarterback who feels the need to do that so that all the people on TV can see his handsome face?
After one of his interceptions yesterday he was laughing on the sidelines right after taking the helmet off.

It's looking REALLY bad for the Chargers staying in San Diego. I may soon have to make a decision on whether or not I will remain a Charger fan. The best part of San Diego Chargers has ALWAYS been "San Diego". Without it, they're pretty much just another team with an owner that cares little about winning. I will likely cozy up to another team.

I don't know how much greater they'd be with more first stringers. It didn't help at the start of the season. Offense still had weaknesses. And the coach seems to have fostered a culture of players losing discipline and playing like rookies in the 4th quarter.

I can see the possible potential you speak of now that Gordon finally started protecting the ball better

I listened to one of those ESPN shows. You seem to forget that ESPN shows go nationwide and Charger fans are a tiny portion of nationwide audiences.
They have to talk about subjects that are of interest to ALL football fans not just Charger fans. That is if they want to keep their jobs.

They aren't wrong about Thursday games having a lack of prep and rest. But a lot of these teams go into it under similar circumstances. The only time a team would have a clear advantage is if they are coming off a bye week.

I forgot to mention. I listened to a couple of ESPN talk shows the morning after the Chargers beat the Broncos. Was the talk all about our stunning upset victory or kudos for the Chargers? Hell no! All they talked about is how low scoring and sloppy Thursday night games are. How teams are unprepared and they should do away with games that night. Because, after all, if the Chargers beat the defending Superbowl champs, it can only mean the system needs an overhaul.

Strength and conditioning may make no real difference with all the ACL and other tendon tears taking out several starters. Tendons strengthen at a very different rate than muscles, tends to be very limited. In some cases, when there are pec or bicep tears at the tendon and rips right off the bone, some conjecture that those on steroids and hgh see their muscles strengthen at a faster rate and level than connective tissue can keep up with and support.

Often it can be a freakish thing that happens trying to move or do something you'd never think could injure you.

These are pro athletes where hiring strength and conditioning coaches is the difference between multi million dollar contracts and being replaced. I doubt most of these athletes are being lazy in the off season. Training all-year has been the norm.

Bad in-season conditioning may have an effect on guys gassing out in the fourth quarter and playing sloppy.

Maybe everyone is looking at the wrong coach to fire. Maybe they need a new strengthening/conditioning coach. Off season doesn't mean these guys should be taking it easy. It means they should be whipping their bodies into shape for the next season. If their bodies were conditioned properly then they might not lose 2-3 (sometimes more) starters per game. Sometimes it all goes back to what they're doing or not doing during the off season. As far as shooting themselves in the foot in the last quarter of the game, well, that's an entirely different story. But maybe they'd have a fighting chance if the starters weren't dropping like flies.

A winning season would certainly help their cause. The Padres rode a great run at the championship to that new stadium. Though John Moore's people did a great PR job of selling what they believed a baseball stadium can do for revitalizing nearby real estate.

I get it though, NFL franchises are scarce and can't be replaced. It's arguably a seller's market. They may reasonably believe they can more with far less work.

Of course, there may be one hard reality to face. The personnel on the field may be as good as their draft team and GM can manage to acquire.

It's funny. We've all seen how players will kick it up a notch when it's time to renew their contracts or become free agents. But the Chargers are too cheap to even make a run for greatness when it's time for a vote on a new stadium. Even if they really don't want to stay in San Diego, a winning team would be much more attractive to some other city.

They may as well keep the coaching staff and let the young players get as much experience as possible without the distractions of losing a head coach.

Wholesale changes like a new GM may be in order. Since Telesco came in, shoring up a patchwork o-line has been a real problem. Years later, it's still a major problem. And the front office is finding ways to make a public spectacle of private personnel issues, such as Bosa's contract negotiations or the issues with Weddle when he was on his way out.

Right WRT! And according to FORBES the team is worth 2.08 billion dollars. That's two billion, eighty million dollars. Think of it this way, two thousand, eighty million dollars.
So why doesn't Spanos just do it?
Because he still thinks that SOMEWHERE there will be a city with politicians and voters stupid enough to do it for him. And sadly, he might be right.
